The decision of the Kosovo authorities to expel a Russian employee of the UN mission, declaring him persona non grata, is provocative and taken in order to “curry favor with Western mentors.” This is stated in the statement of the Russian Embassy in Serbia on Facebook.

“We proceed from the fact that in accordance with international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, central to the Kosovo settlement, it has no legal consequences,” the statement added. Representatives of the Russian Embassy also called on the regional administration at the UN to fully ensure the safety of its Russian employees.

The fact that the Russian has been declared persona non grata was previously announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Donika Gervala. According to her, in this way Kosovo responds to “any destabilizing efforts of the Russian Federation in the region.”
