Vasily Nebenzya

Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, has rejected claims that Russia and Turkey support different sides in Nagorno-Karabakh. TASS reports his words at a press conference in the Security Council.

Nebenzya noted that Turkey's support for Azerbaijan is obvious. “We know that. But this does not mean that we are on the other side, supporting Armenia against Azerbaijan. This is not the case, ”he said.

According to the permanent representative, Russia stands for a just settlement of the conflict, a ceasefire and hostilities. “We want both states to stop this escalation,” concluded Nebenzya.

The fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) began on September 27. Azerbaijan accused the Armenian military of shelling its positions, Armenia accuses the Azerbaijani military in the attack on Artsakh, both sides report civilian casualties.
