Moscow has no plans to establish military bases in Libya, as stated in the national consensus government (NTC). The comments were made by the Russian Ambassador in Egypt Georgy Borisenko in interview to TV channel TEN.
According to him, the Libyan authorities have not even sent requests for the establishment of any military base or naval base. Borisenko said that Russia sees Libya as an independent and sovereign state, so do not want to interfere in its Affairs without the consent of the local authorities.
So the Ambassador responded to the statement of the interior Minister of Libya’s NTC, Fathi Balaga. On 8 June, the Minister told Bloomberg that Russia has plans to establish in the country two military bases. We are talking about the base, located East of the port city of Sirte, and the military airport of al-Dzhufra located 600 kilometers South-East of Tripoli.
The NTC forces continue to push units of the Libyan national army (LNA) with the help of Turkey, which, in particular, provides the Tripoli army air support.
