A draft law on the abolition of the resolution of the State Council of the USSR “On the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Lithuania” was submitted to the State Duma.
State Duma deputy from “United Russia” Yevgeny Fedorov introduced a bill on the abolition of the recognition of the independence of Lithuania.
This is reported by the propaganda publication of the Russian Federation Lenta.RU.
According to the explanatory note to the bill, he claims that the decision of the State Council of the USSR is illegal, since it was adopted “by an unconstitutional body and in violation of the requirements of a number of articles of the Constitution.”
The politician said that the USSR law “On procedure for resolving issues related to the withdrawal of a union republic from the USSR “was violated, since in the Lithuanian Republic the public did not hold a referendum on secession from the USSR, nor was a transitional period established for consideration of all contentious issues.
Lithuania withdrew from the USSR in 1991.
