A bill was submitted to the State Duma, within the framework of which it was proposed to make December 26 a day of remembrance of the end of the existence of the USSR. The initiative to introduce such a date was made by the Liberal Democratic Party, RBC reports.

Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov, who was born in the year of the collapse of the USSR – 1991, proposed amendments to the law on days of military glory and memorable dates. society, exacerbation of the economic and political crisis, the emergence of conflicts on ethnic grounds. “

Chernyshov believes that it is necessary to set December 26 as a special date in order to perpetuate the memory of “a significant event in the history of the Russian state, a special milestone that should not be forgotten by all generations of Russian citizens.”

“Yes, I really proposed such an initiative. The reason is very simple: this year is 30 years since the collapse of a state great in its power and history – a country that defeated the most terrible enemy on Earth, ”the deputy explained.

The Deputy Speaker of the State Duma added that the USSR was the first to launch a man into space and create an “incredible security system”, but after its collapse, many people did not find themselves in the new reality. In addition, the number of crimes increased, and one country broke up into “divided republics and a large number of national conflicts.”

“Unfortunately, history is not a teacher for us, but a strict overseer who does not forgive unlearned lessons. We must consolidate such a serious day as the destruction of this great state in order to remember this tragedy,
to carry out commemorative events: educational, educational ”, – concluded Chernyshov.

Earlier, the last leader of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, answered a question about the involvement of the West in the collapse of the USSR. He said that in the highest echelons of power in Western countries “there were people who rubbed their hands, seeing our difficulties.”

The Soviet Union collapsed after the conclusion of the Belovezhskaya Agreements in December 1991 by the leaders of the RSFSR, the Ukrainian and Byelorussian SSR, who divided a single state. During these events, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev gave up the fight and was removed from power.
