The Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia is working on the launch of the first ever Russian orbital station with the functions of a space port, according to a broadcast on the corporation's YouTube channel. The development was named ROSS – Russian Orbital Service Station.
“There will be no permanent crew at the station; ROSS will become a space port for small spacecraft, ”the program says. It is planned that the cosmonauts will fly on ROSS on a rotational basis, and the station infrastructure will be able to serve the orbiters.
ROSS will be a “cloud” station: around its core there will be autonomous modules, periodically approaching the station to service it. The station will be built according to the “open architecture” type. Its service life will not be limited due to replaceable modules.
At the end of July, a meeting of the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos was held, at which, in connection with the completion of the ISS operation in 2028, it was decided to launch the ROSS. The state corporation said that the new station should “become an evolutionary step in the development of a program for the study and development of the Moon, flights to Mars and the implementation of innovative scientific and technical programs in space.”
How much will it cost Russia to build its module in space, read in the material “Kommersant FM” “The orbital station is determined with the timing.”
