Russian experts came up with a new space initiative – they proposed sending an unmanned helicopter to Venus.
This was reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the report of the employees of the Moscow Aviation Institute. It is noted that the purpose of this initiative is to conduct a research mission. As planned, the unmanned vehicle will be made in the form of a sphere with a diameter of 70 cm, and will be made of titanium. The shell of the helicopter will be equipped with a screen-vacuum thermal insulation. It is also proposed to equip the aircraft with two propellers with a diameter of one meter, a parachute braking system, four support legs, as well as a drilling rig, which will allow collecting soil for research.
To protect the scientific equipment, it was proposed to cover it with a ten-centimeter layer of airgel with the addition of titanium oxide. The research mission will allow to learn new data about the surface of Venus, including the study of the calderas of its volcanoes.
