Moscow proposes to conclude an agreement on the international regulation of Internet governance. This was stated by the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Oleg Syromolotov, RIA Novosti reports.
“Russia stands for the internationalization of Internet management and the equal participation of states in this process, the preservation of the sovereign right of states to regulate the national segment of the Internet,” Syromolotov said. He stressed that the agreement on the regulation of the Internet will be effective only if it is accepted by all countries.
On November 16, at a plenary meeting of the State Duma, the head of the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, Vasily Piskarev, said that it was necessary to force foreign IT companies operating in Russia to comply with Russian legislation. According to him, illegal content is not removed on the Internet sites of the largest IT companies, but even replicated.
Later, the head of the working group on legislation in the field of Internet technologies and digitalization of the Public Chamber of Russia, Vadim Vinogradov, explained that the measures would be effective, as they affect the long-term financial profit of foreign IT companies.
