Russia may launch an invasion of Ukraine during the Olympics – White House

Washington does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made the final decision to attack Ukraine again. Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, stated this.

He clarified that the PBS report that Putin has already decided on a new invasion of Ukraine next week does not reflect the data of the US administration.

“We are not saying that the decision has been made, that Vladimir Putin has made the final decision,” Sullivan said.

However, according to him, now is the so-called time window when the Russian Federation can launch an invasion at virtually any moment, as soon as Putin decides that it needs to be done.

“I can't comment on the details of our intelligence, but I want to make it clear that this could start during the Olympics – despite previous suggestions that it would happen after it,” he said.

Sullivan clarified that a new Russian invasion is possible as early as next week – before February 20, before the end of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

According to him, the Kremlin will launch the attack, most likely with an air attack.

Earlier, journalists, citing representatives of the US administration, said they expected the invasion to begin next week. They wrote that the attack would begin with two days of aerial bombardment and electronic warfare, followed by an invasion for possible regime change.
