The authorities are trying to control the information space as much as possible.

Russian authorities are trying to maximize control over citizens' access to the Internet and clean up the information space, preparing for the so-called “presidential elections ” in 2024.

This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War ( ISW ).

It is reported that the head of the Russian government, Mikhail Mishustin, signed a decree on November 17 allowing the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information and Media (Roskomnadzor) to block sites that publish information about ways to visit sites banned in Russia.

In addition, on October 17, the State Duma adopted a bill banning the display of presidential campaign materials on websites banned in Russia.

“The November 17 resolution likely relates in part to control over the Russian information space ahead of the 2024 presidential elections,” ISW noted.

Let us recall that it was previously reported that Advisor to the Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak spoke about likely contenders for the presidency of the Russian Federation .

In addition, we previously reported that Russian Presidential Speaker Dmitry Peskov said that the next president should be “the same” as Vladimir Putin .
