The Kremlin is increasing military and political pressure on the countries of the South Caucasus.
The Russian Federation has accelerated the staffing of its military base in Gyumri, on the territory of Armenia, amid worsening relations with Azerbaijan.
The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine drew attention to this.
The intelligence report states that personnel for the Russian military base in Armenia are being recruited from among servicemen serving in the Rostov and Volgograd regions, as well as in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
In addition, Russia is actively seeking volunteers among representatives of the enslaved peoples of the Caucasus, in particular in North Ossetia and Adygea.
“The deployment of Russian troops in Armenia is an element of the Kremlin's comprehensive strategy aimed at destabilizing the global security situation. Along with fueling the interethnic conflict, Moscow is increasing its military presence in the Caucasus. The deterioration of relations between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation was probably prepared in advance,” suggested Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Recall that after the high-profile detentions of Azerbaijanis in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, during which two people died, raids against Russians began in Azerbaijan. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev to express condolences over the Kremlin's tyranny.
