“Russia is fundamentally weak”: ex-Trump adviser names best time for talks with Putin

According to General Herbert McMaster, Ukraine should not negotiate an end to the war yet.

Former National Security Advisor to the 45th US President Donald Trump, retired Lieutenant General Herbert McMaster believes that the allies should now provide Ukraine with all the necessary opportunities so that Kyiv can talk to Moscow with positions of power.

He said this in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

“The Russians have suffered more casualties in the last month than in any other month of the war. I don't think that can be sustained for long. That's one of the reasons why North Korean troops are there,” McMaster noted.

At the same time, the former adviser is confident that despite the “fundamental weakness” of the Russian Federation and the vulnerability of the Putin regime, the Kremlin still has enough levers of power.

“Putin can still swing a nuclear club. “He still has cyber capabilities and the ability to strike at long range,” the general emphasized.

In his opinion, Putin can only be stopped by tough resistance from Europe and the United States.

“He will not stop until he is stopped by concerted military, diplomatic and economic efforts. We need the Europeans to step up, as the Poles, the Baltics and the Nordics have done. Because they know what a threat is. “It's right on their border,” said General Herbert McMaster.

Recall that the Russian representative to the UN named a condition for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. The Russian diplomat believes that any such negotiations should be based on what he called “realities on the ground.”
