Donald Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg met with self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus. This is quite an interesting move by the United States.
Political strategist Taras Zagorodniy told Channel 24 about this, noting that Russia clearly did not like the meeting between Kellogg and Lukashenko. They are already tense there.
Why Kellogg went to Belarus
As Zagorodniy noted, the United States is gradually “cutting off the tentacles” that allow Russia to influence regions that are sensitive for Americans. They are gradually dispersing the influence of dictator Putin.
It is already known that the conversation between Lukashenko and Kellogg lasted 6 hours. Obviously, they touched upon the war in Ukraine and Belarus's interactions with Russia.
Most likely, there were warnings for Lukashenko not to twitch. The United States will support him if he distances himself from the Russians. They clearly told him not to “dabble” in various wars, attacks on Europe, and so on. I think Lukashenko understood everything. He is a bandit. But he has not lost his mind in all his years in power, – noted Zagorodniy.
Now Belarus is almost the only country that allows Russia to feel like an empire. It is through it that Putin can, in particular, influence European politics.
Let us add that in September 2025, Belarus will host joint military exercises with Russia, Zapad-2025. They have already said that they will move them deeper into their territory to reduce tensions. At one time, Belarus held joint unscheduled exercises, Allied Resolve-2022, from February 10 to 20, 2022. Four days later, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
