A Russian Il-114LL (flying laboratory) aircraft was raised to spy on a Boeing P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft of the US Air Force (Air Force). The Voenniy Obozrevatel Telegram channel drew attention to this on Tuesday, December 28.

According to the channel, earlier the American aircraft began reconnaissance over the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea. In response, the Russian military decided to use the Il-114LL for counter-observation.

Earlier, on December 27, a US Air Force reconnaissance aircraft RC-135V was spotted circling in the sky near Donbass. It was noted that he took off from the NATO airbase on the island of Crete, and then began a reconnaissance flight while in the airspace of Ukraine. Prior to this, an aircraft of the same modification was seen over the Black Sea near the borders of the Crimea and Krasnodar Territory.

In early December, Russian airspace control systems detected an American RC-135 reconnaissance and targeting aircraft CL-600 Artemis approaching the country's borders. To accompany them, Russian Su-27 and Su-30 fighters were raised.
