Russia will provide Crimea with water despite the “machinations” of Ukraine. This was stated by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova during a regular briefing, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel RT.

“Reliable water supply to the peninsula will be ensured, despite the intrigues of the Kiev regime,” Zakharova promised.

She said that on March 16, a water intake was launched on the Belbek River, which will allow to receive 50 thousand cubic meters per day. In addition, by the end of the year, the construction of the Nezhinsky, Prostornensky and Novogrigorievsky water intakes will be completed. Also, two desalination plants are being designed, they are planned to be launched in 2022, the Foreign Ministry added.

Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum on the peninsula, in which the majority of local residents supported this decision.

Ukraine considers this an occupation, which is why it blocked the North Crimean Canal from the Dnieper, which provided more than 80 percent of the peninsula's fresh water needs.
