The Samara Rocket and Space Center (RSC) “Progress” has temporarily stopped the technical design of the super-heavy rocket “Yenisei” for a flight to the moon. The head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin previously noted that the creation of the Yenisei will cost 1 trillion rubles. Now he announced that the money will be directed to the creation of methane engines so that superheavy can be reused.
The head of the enterprise, Dmitry Baranov, announced that the Progress RCC suspended the development of the Yenisei in a conversation with RIA Novosti. According to him, in the future, the design may be resumed if such a decision is made by Roskosmos. Now the RCC, together with the state corporation, are refining the program for creating a super-heavy rocket.
In October 2020, Dmitry Rogozin announced that the creation of the Yenisei rocket would cost under 1 trillion rubles. This is the Roscosmos budget for 5 years. “Secret” said that an expert from the American publication Ars Technica called such an amount “insane” for the project.
The technical design of the Yenisei was to be completed by October 2021. At the same time, in December 2020, the head of Roscosmos announced that the project would be revised in order to create a super-rocket based on more breakthrough technologies. In February 2021, Dmitry Baranov announced that the design of the super-heavy was paused due to the correction of its appearance.
On September 15, Rogozin told reporters that the money that they wanted to spend on the creation of the Yenisei would be directed to the development of methane-powered engines. They will make it possible to repeatedly launch super-heavy rockets into space, and not one-time, as is happening now.
“So we will simply throw out a trillion rubles under the cries of people who do not have enough money in the country. And nothing good. And there will be a one-time flight around the moon. What's next? If we want to create this system, then it must be reusable. Therefore, we will do better a little later, but we will do it in such a way that it will stimulate the development of composite materials in Roskosmos, and systems, and alloys, and new engines, ”Rogozin emphasized.
The head of Roscosmos promised to carry out the Russian launch to the moon 45 years later at the end of 2021. Rogozin spoke about this in the year of the space anti-record – in 2020, only 17 space rockets were launched in Russia. So few carriers were last sent into orbit in 1957-1961, even before a man entered space.
