This squad supposedly included “the best of the best in their sports disciplines.”

In Russia created a detachment of athletes participating in the war against Ukraine. It is sponsored by state-owned companies and includes martial arts participants.

The Center for National Resistance writes about this.

As noted, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev created the Soyuz detachment to participate in the war against Ukraine.

This squad apparently included “the best of the best in their sports disciplines.” In addition, the detachment was formed on the basis of the Russian Union of Martial Arts (RUBM), which is headed by Kiriyenko and Trutnev. They announced this back in December 2022 – then 145 people joined it.

In particular, the squad included the winner of the World Cup in Kyokushin (a type of karate) Viktor Gorn, the Japanese kickboxing champion Sergei Plekhanov, and the already deceased European champion in Kyokushin Sergei Uvitsky. The training took place at the Russian University of Special Forces in Chechnya.

Recall that in Russia the mayor of one of the cities put on a glove to shake hands with locals.
