Senior Researcher at the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations at the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO RAS) Andrey Kudryavtsev, in an interview with Izvestia, stated the desire of French President Emmanuel Macron to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, not limited only to consultations with the United States.

According to the interlocutor of the publication, in France and in Europe as a whole, there is a feeling that Russia’s initiatives and the negotiations that followed them are pushing Europe into the background. Kudryavtsev said that Macron wants to involve Europe in the process, not limited to consultations with the United States alone. “After all, all Russian initiatives in one way or another relate specifically to European security,” Kudryavtsev said.

He also noted that the French leader is a convinced Europeanist. The main priority of Macron’s policy is to consolidate the European center and acquire strategic autonomy, he concluded.

Macron will visit Moscow on Monday, February 7. After that, the French president plans to visit Kiev on February 8, where he will discuss the situation in Ukraine with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
