Moscow is expanding its military presence in Armenia amid recent tensions with Azerbaijan, trying to destabilize the situation.

This was reported by 24 Kanal with reference to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Representative Andrey Yusov named Russia's motives.

What is Russia planning?

According to intelligence, Russia has recently accelerated the staffing of its military base in the Armenian city of Gyumri to increase military and political pressure on the countries of the South Caucasus.

“The personnel are being recruited from among the servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces who are serving in the Rostov and Volgograd regions, as well as in the temporarily occupied Crimea,” the statement said.

In addition, according to published information, Russia is now actively seeking volunteers among representatives of the enslaved peoples of the Caucasus, in particular, from the territory of North Ossetia and Adygea.

The deployment of Russian troops in Armenia is an element of the Kremlin's comprehensive strategy aimed at destabilizing the global security situation. Along with fueling the interethnic conflict, Moscow is increasing its military presence in the Caucasus. The deterioration of relations between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation was probably prepared in advance, Andrei Yusov said.

Let us recall that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Russia began because at the end of June in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, local security forces carried out a raid against the Azerbaijani diaspora, which resulted in casualties.

Azerbaijan is currently investigating the torture and murder of the two Safarov brothers. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case under several articles due to the cruel treatment of detainees.
