Russia doubted Ukraine's ability to win the love of the inhabitants of Crimea with the help of a transport, trade and water blockade of the peninsula. This was stated on Monday at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) by the representative of the Russian delegation Yaroslav Eremin, quoted by TASS.
“We doubt that the Crimeans will be able to forget the years of their life“ in the arms ”of Kiev. And the transport, trade and water blockade of the peninsula, introduced by him, will definitely not win the love of its population, ”Eremin said.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities are doing everything to prevent the peninsula from developing and “leave it in the deplorable state in which it was during its stay in Ukraine.” “By the way, the attitude towards the inhabitants of the peninsula on the part of Kiev is very indicative, which by hook or by crook is trying to complicate the lives of people living there,” the diplomat said.
Eremin added that the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol made their choice seven years ago.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany is one of Ukraine's closest partners and strongly supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine. She stressed the importance of the European Union reacting unanimously and unequivocally to the reunification of Crimea with Russia. The State Duma was disappointed with Merkel's words.
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum on the peninsula, in which the majority of local residents supported this decision. Ukraine considers this an occupation, which is why it blocked the North Crimean Canal from the Dnieper, which provided more than 80 percent of the peninsula's fresh water needs.
