The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation recorded an increase in space activity in 2021, RIA Novosti reports, citing the press service of the department.
The ministry said that the Russian optical-electronic complex for detecting space objects “Okno-M”, located in the Sanglok mountains in Tajikistan for four months in 2021, provided control of the movement of about 30,000 space objects.
At the same time, in 2020, based on information from Okna-M, more than 25,000 space objects were monitored, the ministry said.
The complex allows monitoring space objects in orbits in the altitude range from 120 to 50 thousand kilometers. Moreover, at the maximum range, the complex is capable of detecting objects no larger than a tennis ball, the press service added.
The Okno complex has been put on experimental combat duty since 1999.
It includes optical-electronic stations for detecting and collecting information, television detection equipment and computing facilities.
