The Russian Embassy in the United States denied accusations of the American side of hacker attacks. This was stated by a representative of the body in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The diplomatic mission stressed that such accusations have nothing to do with reality. The purpose of such statements is to stir up Russophobic sentiments among Americans, to launch a “witch hunt” and spy mania, they suggested.
“Russia does not and did not have any intentions to engage in any kind of destabilizing operations around the world. This does not meet our foreign policy, national interests, as well as our understanding of how relations between states are built, “the embassy explained.
Earlier, the United States charged six Russians with hacking. They are accused of being involved in “some of the most devastating cyber attacks in the world”: an attack on Ukraine's power grid, interference in Georgia, during the French elections and in connection with the 2018 Olympics.
In particular, we are talking about the spread of the NotPetya ransomware virus in 2017, which infected devices around the world. The damage to the three American companies as a result of the attacks is estimated at more than a billion dollars.
