The Ministry of Economic Development denied information that the European Union is demanding € 290 billion from Russia in a dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO). TASS reports.

According to the ministry, information about the European Union's demand for hundreds of billions of euros from Russia is unreliable. They added that it is only about the requirement to cancel or modify certain measures of Russia, which the EU considers to be in violation of the WTO rules. “The EU estimates the Russian procurement market at 290 billion euros, and not the damage caused by the EU,” the Ministry of Economic Development said.

Earlier it was reported that the EU turned to the WTO with one of the largest disputes in history, demanding from Russia 290 billion euros due to the policy of import substitution. According to Europe, Russia “illegally discriminated” European goods for such an amount with its import substitution policy. They pointed out that such restrictions put foreign producers in economically less favorable conditions and deprive them of the possibility of fair competition.
