Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that Moscow has decided to create “vulnerabilities” for Western countries if they continue the course of creating military threats for the Russian Federation. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“No one should have any doubts about our determination to defend our safety. There is a limit to everything, ”Antonov said, adding that if Russian partners continue to shape the military-strategic realities that threaten Russia's existence, Moscow will be forced to create similar vulnerabilities for them. According to Antonov, “we have come to the point where there is nowhere to retreat.”
He stressed that “for Russia, the military development of Ukraine by NATO member states is an existential threat.”
The Russian ambassador added that the US policy towards the Russian Federation resembles “squeezing a spring.” “Either it breaks, or it fires in the opposite direction. What should we do in these conditions? To not pay attention? To withdraw troops deep into Russia beyond the Urals? ”Antonov asked.
According to him, “the flurry of criticism from NATO countries about” Russian aggression “against Ukraine and Georgia” was predictable. “Our actions dealt a blow to the plans for further advancement to the borders of Russia,” Antonov said.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed the containment of Russia's “aggression” against Ukraine with the Foreign Ministers of Great Britain, Germany and France, Elizabeth Truss, Annalena Berbock, and Jean-Yves Le Drian. During the conversation, the foreign ministers confirmed their readiness to collect a high price from the Russian Federation if the plans attributed to it are implemented.
