For the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia, they decided to create a multipurpose unmanned complex “Molniya”, consisting of several jet drones launched by a swarm from a carrier aircraft. RIA Novosti was told about this by a source in the military-industrial complex.
He explained that the swarm would be an effective means of breaking through enemy air defenses or as an electronic warfare tool. In addition, the option of using drones as target designators or high-precision guided missiles is allowed.
Lightning's drones will be manufactured in the cruise missile form factor and up to one and a half meters long. This will allow them to be launched from both combat and military transport aircraft, as well as from C-70 Okhotnik strike drones.
