Maria Zakharova
The desire of the European Union to impose sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Ukraine deprives the union of the prospects for cooperation. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, quoted by TASS.
We perceive this step as another missed opportunity to break the deadlock into which the EU has driven itself by linking the prospects of relations with our country with the situation in Ukraine

According to the diplomat, such an act fits into the destructive line of Brussels to maintain accusatory rhetoric against Moscow. In particular, Zakharova criticized the EU's extension of restrictive measures against Russia, which became known on September 10. The measures will be in effect for at least another six months, until March 15, 2021.
The sanctions will affect “individuals and organizations that continue to undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.” So, they provide travel restrictions and freezing assets in the European Union.
The EU, the United States and a number of other countries have introduced anti-Russian sanctions due to the entry of Crimea into Russia in 2014 and the exacerbation of the situation in southeastern Ukraine. Economic restrictions are regularly extended.
