Alexander Grushko
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia spoke about the lowest point in relations between Moscow and NATO. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
He also compared relations with NATO during the Cold War and now, recognizing the current situation as the worst in the last 30 years. The alliance has already stopped all practical interaction with Russia, even in those areas “which gave an obvious security benefit for all members of the Russia-NATO Council,” the diplomat emphasized.
“NATO, obviously, was unable to adapt to the new security conditions and for the sake of its own survival [the alliance] returned to the postulates of the Cold War, protection from threats from the East,” Grushko suggested. He concluded that there is no positive agenda in Moscow's relations with the alliance today.
On March 19, the head of the American University in Moscow, Eduard Lozansky, announced that Ukraine could become the site of a direct military clash between Russia and NATO. He added that under the Joe Biden administration, the US-Russia relationship should not be expected to improve.
