Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, commented on the Israeli air strike on the Syrian seaport of Latakia. TASS reports.
According to him, Russia does not believe that any situations of this kind contribute to stability both in the region and in Syria itself. The Russian diplomat also noted that it is necessary to conduct an investigation into the incident.
Earlier, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS) in Syria, said that the units of the Syrian air defense forces did not engage in combat with the Israeli F-16 fighters, which launched a missile attack on the port in Latakia, since this For a while, a Russian Aerospace Forces plane landed at the nearby Khmeimim airfield. He explained that the Russian plane at the time of the strike was in the zone of destruction of anti-aircraft systems.
The attack was reported earlier on December 28. The target of the Israeli army was a container yard at a trading port in Latakia. As a result of the missile hit, a fire broke out. This led to greater material damage, Syria said.
