The Russian Federal State Statistics Service has stopped publishing any data on the demographic situation in the country. This concerns both birth and death rates.

This was reported by Channel 24 , citing the Russian opposition publication Current Time.

What is known about the classification of demographic data in Russia

Journalists note that the Demographics section is missing from the review of Russia's socio-economic situation for May, which was released this week. There are also no demographic data in the corresponding section on the Rosstat website, where the last update was in March.

The publication clarifies that this refers to data concerning the number of births and deaths, marriages and divorces, migration and the total population.

Journalists recalled that in May it became known that demographers working in Russia can receive statistical data hidden by the authorities only for official use – with a personal signature. This was reported by demographer Alexey Raksha, who had previously drawn attention to the fact that Rosstat had stopped publishing statistics on migration and the total population, as well as statistics on births and deaths by region.

Following the release of this information, Russia added Raksha to its list of “foreign agents.”
