The decisions of the United States to restore the “nuclear” exceptions can be perceived as the final signal of the entry into negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, made such an assessment on his Twitter account.

In his opinion, this step of Washington is correct. “This will help accelerate the restoration of the JCPOA and the mutual return of the United States and Iran to compliance with the 2015 deal,” the permanent representative wrote.

The day before, the State Department said that the US administration had decided to restore previously canceled exemptions from sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program. However, Washington does not consider this measure a concession to Tehran, the State Department said.

A State Department official announced the restoration of exemptions from sanctions under the nuclear deal to allow third parties to “participate in nuclear nonproliferation and security projects in Iran.”
