The election of a politician loyal to Russia to the post of the new head of NATO is impossible, because Washington will never allow a change in the established course, State Duma deputy Dmitry Novikov is sure. In conversation with the “Tape.” he appreciated the importance of the changes in the leadership of the alliance for relations with Moscow.

Candidates who are being considered for the post of NATO Secretary General have become known. The current Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, can be replaced by former British Prime Minister Theresa May, as well as Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The list of possible candidates also includes Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas, former EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

“NATO’s antipathy to Russia is stable”

“With the election of a new secretary General, the alliance’s attitude towards Russia is unlikely to change, NATO’s antipathy towards our country is stable. The political elite in the West is formed largely based on the anti-Russian context, and if someone suddenly would be ready to take a more constructive position, then he behaves like an extremely conspiratorial person. Remember, just for stating the fact that Crimea became Russian, the German admiral was forced to resign,” Novikov noted

The deputy believes that, although the degree of aggression of NATO leaders towards Russia may be different, there are no trends to reduce this rate in the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, the personnel policy of the alliance is never accidental, because the arrival of a person loyal to Russia to the post of Secretary General is impossible.

NATO is a solid organization, no random person will ever become its head. This is a serious political decision, the dossier of each candidate will be carefully studied.

“Given Washington’s position on Russia and realizing that NATO is its manual organization, it is clear that a politician who would advocate a change of course will not be able to come to power physically,” the deputy concluded.

Earlier it was reported that the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will become the head of the Central Bank of Norway in October 2022. He has been the Secretary General of NATO since March 2014. Initially, Stoltenberg was supposed to finish the work in 2018, but his term of office was extended until September 30, 2022.
