Representatives of Western countries refused to listen to the residents of Crimea at the meeting of the UN Security Council according to the Arria formula. This was stated by the head of the Russian mission to the world organization Vasily Nebenzya, according to the website of the country's permanent mission.
Thus, diplomats from the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France repeated their critical statements against Moscow, but ignored the assessments and opinions expressed by the Crimeans. “Our goal was to show how ordinary people live in Crimea. It is a pity that our western colleagues ignored the words of the Crimean people, ”Nebenzya said.
The Permanent Representative of Russia also expressed regret that Ukrainian colleagues did not participate in the event. “Unfortunately for Ukraine, she herself lost Crimea because of her own mistakes made seven years ago. The most rude of them was that in Ukraine they did not listen to the voice of the Crimean population, ”Nebenzya noted. At the same time, he added that for those who have a desire to see the real state of affairs in Crimea, the doors are always open.
An informal meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Crimea, organized by Russia, took place on Wednesday, March 17.
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the region's residents who voted supported such a decision. Ukraine, the EU countries and the United States refused to recognize the results of the vote, calling the reunification of the peninsula with mainland Russia an annexation. The Russian authorities reject these allegations and insist that the accession procedure was in accordance with international law.
