Moscow is ready to negotiate with Brussels on migration. This was stated by Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's permanent representative to the European Union.
“As for the migration negotiations, yes, we are ready to discuss [the relevant topic] with the European Union,” the diplomat said.
According to him, Russia has extensive experience in migration issues as a “country of origin, transit country and destination country.” He pointed out that there are “quite a lot” of migrants in Russia from the countries of the post-Soviet space.
“We have experience how to handle them. And I would venture to say that it is in many ways more successful than that of the European Union, ”concluded Chizhov.
The migration crisis at the EU border began at the end of May. Large groups of illegal migrants from Africa and the Middle East began to storm the borders of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia in the hope of obtaining asylum. The authorities of the European states believe that the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was involved in organizing the crisis, who uses the national tour operator Tsentrkurort to transport illegal immigrants to the EU borders in order to provoke a migration crisis and put political pressure on Brussels.
