Relations between Moscow and Washington are at an impasse, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The department also stressed that this situation was the fault of the United States, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier on March 18, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova revealed the reasons why Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov was invited to Moscow. She stressed that such a step was taken to discuss relations between Russia and the United States.
Antonov will arrive in the Russian capital on March 20. In the course of consultations at the Russian Foreign Ministry and other departments, ways of “straightening out the Russian-American ties that are in crisis” will be discussed.
On March 17, it was reported that the decision to summon Antonov to Moscow was made in order to analyze the prospects for relations with Washington. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced this a few hours after United States President Joe Biden recounted his conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, during which, according to him, he warned his colleague about the inevitability of punishment for meddling in American elections.
