US Congressman Albin Siris accused Russia of trying to destabilize South America, including Colombia. He stated this at a hearing in Congress, RIA Novosti reports.
“I am concerned that they [the Russian authorities] are using Venezuela to destabilize Colombia, interfere in the elections in South America, and I hope that the [US] administration will focus on Russian efforts and attempts to destabilize our neighbors in the western hemisphere,” Siris said. … US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken agreed with him.
In September 2020, the US White House National Security Council (SNB) accused Russia of trying to influence the country's electoral process. “Russia seeks to sow discord and chaos in America and other democratic societies,” the entry says.
