Alexander Grushko
The blame for the destruction of security in Europe lies with the North Atlantic Alliance, as it brought the military infrastructure closer to Russia's borders. This accusation was made by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko, he is quoted by RIA Novosti.
“As a result of several waves of enlargement, the situation in Europe has changed dramatically, we have observed an increase in the infrastructure presence of NATO at our vital centers, the deployment of troops and weapons, albeit not on a permanent basis, the rotation of units, an increase in the number of military exercises. All this has distorted the security situation as it developed in the post-Cold War period, ”the diplomat said.
According to him, it was precisely because of the strengthening of the alliance that Moscow had to adapt its policy and military planning. Grushko also recalled that the NATO countries themselves are implementing an anti-missile defense (ABM) program in Europe and are building facilities in Romania and Poland. “If you carefully read the NATO texts, then not only between the lines, but also directly reads that in fact these objects will be focused on“ parrying the threat from the East ”,” the Deputy Foreign Minister concluded.
On March 16, the report of the Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was published, which named the main threats to NATO. They are Russia, terrorism, cyberattacks, China and climate change.
