Runet users lost access to the Navalny application

Internet users in Russia have problems with access to the Navalny application for smartphones, it follows from the data of the GlobalCheck project, which monitors the blocking in Runet.

According to him, at 19:48 Moscow time on August 23, the application was available only to 50% of users. The application in question contains entries from Alexey Navalny's blog and contains a separate block of “smart” voting.

Journalist Yevgeny Feldman was one of the first to report problems with the launch of Navalny on Twitter. The Twitter user under the nickname Mari Roy was also unable to use the application, clarifying that “through the mobile Internet of MTS [it] does not open, [but] via WiFi [from the Internet operator] Dom.ru in Tver [everything works] fine” … Also, the Navalny application turned out to be unavailable for users of Tinkoff Mobile and Tele2, the RBC correspondent was convinced: when trying to open the application, it says: “The blog could not be loaded. Perhaps you have problems with the Internet. “

Representatives of Internet operators did not comment on the situation.

As the creators of GlobalCheck explained in Telegram, the application downloads data for recommendations on voting in the elections to the State Duma and Navalny's blog from a special page on the Internet. However, the address of this page is not listed in the public registries of prohibited sites, GlobalCheck noted.

“Obviously, blocking on TSPU (technical means of countering threats, mandatory for installation by telecom operators. – RBC ) is used in order to make it difficult to quickly track blocking and rotation of a domain or IP address,” the service concluded.

In mid-August, Roskomnadzor demanded that the App Store and Google Play remove the Navalny app. Referring to the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, the department then reported that the application was being used by the oppositionist's comrades-in-arms to continue the activities of an extremist organization (founded by Navalny, the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK, recognized as a foreign agent) and the headquarters of the oppositionist was declared extremist organizations in early June by the court in early June; their activities on the territory of Russia are now banned ).

In addition, at the end of July, Roskomnadzor blocked the opposition's website navalny.com. The department also demanded from YouTube to block the channels of Navalny's colleagues from FBK – Leonid Volkov and Vladimir Milov, as well as the page of the politician's associates Navalny Live. Also, according to Roskomnadzor, the Twitter account of FBK lawyer Lyubov Sobol should be blocked.
