The documentary film of the Russian TV channel RT “Lessons from Auschwitz” lost in the fight for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy to the project of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The ceremony of announcing the winners of the award is broadcast on Wednesday on its website.
The short film RT, released in 2020 in VR format, was timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Auschwitz by Soviet troops. In July of this year, it became known that he was one of the five nominees for the Emmy, awarded for news and documentary projects (News and Documentary Emmy Awards), in the category Outstanding Interactive Media: Documentary.
The winner in this nomination was the VR project “In Event of Moon Disaster” of the Center for Advanced Virtual Reality at MIT. It is devoted to how events would develop if the landing of American astronauts on the moon in 1969 ended in failure.
RT and MIT films competed with documentaries from The Marshall Project, Facebook's Oculus division, and the American Hispanic TV channel Univision. The 42nd News and Documentary Emmy Awards are being held September 28-29 online.
