People who have had coronavirus can develop heart attacks and strokes. This was stated by Antonina Ploskireva, deputy director for clinical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, reports RIA Novosti.

“In the outcome of coronavirus infection, irreversible changes in the lungs (fibrosis) can form, heart attacks and strokes can develop, which can lead to disability of patients,” Ploskireva said.

According to her, after COVID-19, some patients, and even if they were not hospitalized, may have asthenic syndrome for a long time, which is expressed in the form of increased fatigue, sleep disturbance, and respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, are also possible. The epidemiologist also stressed that they can be cured.

In April 2020, Felix Ershov, a virologist at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), named stroke and heart attack as the consequences of the coronavirus. However, he then meant that as pathologies in the elderly, a heart attack or stroke can occur.

At the same time, he noted that the main cause of death from coronavirus, as a rule, is not COVID-19 itself, but pathology.
