It will be possible to defeat the coronavirus COVID-19 only when the population immunity to the virus is 60-70%. This was stated by Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, RIA Novosti reports.
“To improve the epidemiological situation, it is necessary that population immunity is at least 60–70%. We will not get close to zero incidence rates until the immune layer is formed, ”she said.
For those who have not yet been vaccinated against the coronavirus, it’s time to do so now, she said.
In mid-April, Pshenichnaya said that the situation with the spread of coronavirus in Russia is still unstable. “Throughout the month, the numbers of daily registered cases of the disease, despite the increase in the rate of vaccination, are approximately at the same level, and this suggests that the situation is not yet stable enough,” she said.
Pshenichnaya also noted that if the Russians begin to ignore the precautions, then a further decrease in the incidence will have to wait longer, since there is “still a very large layer of people” who do not have antibodies.
