Rospotrebnadzor: Coronaviruses found in bats living in Russia

In Russia, the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has not yet been detected in bats, but other variants of the virus have been detected, said Anna Speranskaya, head of the genomics and post-genomic technologies group at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, RIA Novosti reports.

According to her, the experts tested samples from about 200 bats of different species using RT-PCR using RT-PCR.

“They specially searched for viruses very similar to SARS-СoV-2, but they didn’t find anything,” Speranskaya emphasized.

The specialist added that, in addition to SARS-CoV-2, there are other coronaviruses in nature that have been identified in bats in Russia. According to the epidemiologist, these viruses are found in all regions where they are found, but in Russia they are still poorly researched.

Earlier, Chinese scientists warned humanity about the emergence of the “X virus”. This statement was made by the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Gao Fu.
