The main symptoms of coronavirus disease can change due to COVID-19 mutations. This was stated by Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

“First of all, you need to understand that all the symptoms of COVID-19 are nonspecific, including the loss of smell, which occurs in 70-80% of cases. Now there is some change in the spectrum of dominant early clinical manifestations in connection with the emergence of new strains of SARS-CoV2, ”RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Pshenichnaya noted that with the Indian strain of the coronavirus, problems with the gastrointestinal tract are more common – abdominal pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, as well as joint pain and hearing loss.

In addition, in patients with the Indian variant of the coronavirus, microthrombosis of the lower extremities is likely, which can lead to the development of gangrene and amputation of the fingers.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Ministry of Health said that the methods of therapy for infection with the Indian strain of coronavirus do not differ from those used in the “usual” case.
