Roskosmos completes ground testing of the Sarmat intercontinental missile

Ground testing of the new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is nearing completion, said Dmitry Rogozin, general director of Roscosmos, on the Soloviev Live YouTube channel.

Rogozin stressed that Russia “has not yet created this kind of missile.”

It is capable of delivering a warhead weighing up to 10 tons anywhere in the world, both through the North and South Poles.

The head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, said earlier that Russia would soon put on alert new unique weapons systems – the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, the Zircon shipborne hypersonic missile, and the S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft system.

On the eve, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the first flight tests of the Sarmat missile will take place this year, and in 2022 it will be handed over to the Strategic Missile Forces.
