Roskomnadzor is going through court to collect turnover fines from Google for repeated failure to delete prohibited information, said the deputy head of the department Vadim Subbotin. For the same reason, Twitter is still slowing down in Russia. The restrictions will be lifted after the social network fully complies with the requirements of Roskomnadzor and removes the remaining 9% of prohibited content.
“We plan to draw up protocols on turnover fines on October 27 this year in relation to Google for repeated failure to delete prohibited information. I would call this a systematic failure to comply with the requirements of Russian law, ”Subbotin told reporters, TASS reported.
The official added that we can talk about a fine in the amount of 1/20 to 1/10 of the annual proceeds, but a specific decision will be made by the court.
Roskomnadzor slows down Twitter due to the failure to delete prohibited information. The agency will remove restrictions on the speed of work when the social network removes all prohibited content – the remaining 9% of what is required by the Russian authorities.
“So far we have remained at the same rate. We expect Twitter to fully comply with the requirements of Russian law. Then we will make the appropriate decision. We are ready to lift the restrictions if they fully comply with Russian legislation, ”concluded Subbotin.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor summed up the results of work since the beginning of 2021. For nine months, the department has blocked more than 427,000 prohibited materials on the Web. The regulator noted that in 45% of cases, social networks independently delete posts with illegal content. At the same time, two services more often ignore the requirements – Facebook refused to eliminate 19% of violations, and YouTube – 11%.
