Moscow. September 30th. INTERFAX.RU – Roskomnadzor (RKN) plans to draw up a protocol on Facebook for repeated failure to delete prohibited information from the social network of the same name, while the fine may amount to an amount equal to a tenth of the Internet company's total revenue, the Vedomosti newspaper reports.
“In Russia, Facebook can be fined in an amount equal to a tenth of its entire proceeds. The corresponding protocol plans to draw up and hand over to representatives of the social network Roskomnadzor for repeated failure to delete prohibited information,” the publication says with reference to the press service of the RKN.
Roskomnadzor summoned Facebook representatives on October 4 to draw up a protocol on violation of Russian law, the regulator explained to the publication. In the future, the document will be sent to the court, which will determine the amount of the fine for the American corporation, the article says.
Since we are talking about a repeated violation of Russian law in terms of removing prohibited information, Facebook may be ordered to pay a fine, “which can be from 1/20 to 1/10 of the annual turnover of an Internet company,” a representative of the RKN said in an interview with the newspaper. At the same time, experts estimate Facebook's Russian revenue at around 12 billion rubles, Vedomosti writes.
As previously reported, the Magistrates' Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow on September 29 allowed Facebook to voluntarily pay 26 million rubles in fines until October 4. If the company does not do this, the court will send the materials to the bailiff service for enforcement.
According to the court rulings that entered into legal force, Facebook must also pay 17 million rubles in fines by October 19. In total, since the beginning of the year, the total amount of fines (according to the court decisions that have come into force and which have not yet entered into force), assigned by Facebook for violations of Russian law, is more than 80 million rubles.
