Since the beginning of this year, more than 3.5 thousand Internet pages with fakes about coronavirus infection have been identified, of which over 700 over the past two months. Such data on Wednesday, October 20, resulted in the press service of Roskomnadzor.
“Since the beginning of the year, 3,516 Internet pages with fakes have been blocked or deleted, and over the past two months: from August 21 to October 20, 707 Internet pages with fakes about COVID-19 have been identified,” RIA Novosti quotes a statement to the press service of Roskomnadzor, where they noted that the average monthly amount of detected materials did not change significantly.
The department recalled that for offenses related to the spread of fakes about COVID-19, liability is provided up to criminal.
Recall that on April 1 of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on imprisonment for up to five years for spreading deliberately false information about coronavirus infection, which led to dire consequences. The corresponding violation is punishable by a fine of up to 700 thousand rubles or restriction of freedom for up to three years.
