Roskomnadzor sent a request to Google to provide information about the actual administrator of the site of the Smart Voting project, politician Alexei Navalny. In the opinion of RKN, the site violates Russian legislation in the field of personal data.

The idea of the Smart Voting project is the consolidated voting of citizens for pre-selected candidates in order to deprive the representatives of the United Russia party of their electoral advantage. On the site, users are invited to register by specifying their e-mail and address of residence, including the house number, as well as to become an observer in the elections – for this they need to indicate their full name and phone number.

“Users of the resource are not warned about the cross-border transfer of their data. There is no information about the place of processing of personal data bases. The fact of the leakage of the database of Russian citizens registered on the Internet resource was confirmed earlier by its organizers, “RIA Novosti quotes a message from the department's press service.

Roskomnadzor notes that information about the administrator of the Smart Voting website is absent in the register of personal data operators. According to the message, this information is needed to “send a request to the operator of personal data on the legal basis for the collection and cross-border transfer of personal data.”

Following a complaint from Yekaterinburg lawyer Andrei Elantsev, Roskomnadzor also asked Google to stop technical support for the Smart Voting website.
