The general director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on Friday, April 9, said that the state corporation plans to provide space communications and broadband Internet access throughout the country in three years.
“If we follow our plans, then in 2024 we will provide the entire Russian Federation with 100% coverage of space communications and broadband access,” TASS quotes Rogozin.
He said that broadband Internet access is of great interest to Russia. Rogozin assured that after the Sphere program is approved, the state corporation will immediately launch work to create new satellite constellations on new platforms.
Thus, the priority region for Roscosmos is the Arctic zone, which must “be provided with highly detailed monitoring, broadband Internet and space communications.” Rogozin noted that this will help the development of the Northern Sea Route.
