Roscosmos is considering the issue of providing insurance against disability to cosmonauts, said Maxim Ovchinnikov, first deputy general director of the state corporation for economics and finance. We are talking about cases when cosmonauts are forced to leave the detachment for medical reasons.
“Another measure that we are working on is insurance against disability,” Mr. Ovchinnikov told TASS. He explained that the issue of insurance is provided for cases when a person spends several years on training, can make one flight, after which, due to health problems, he has to leave the squad.
In July 2020, cosmonaut Nikolai Tikhonov dropped out of the Roskosmos cosmonaut corps due to health problems. He was enlisted in the squad in 2006 and was trained as part of the ISS Specialization and Improvement Team.
