Romania will send the Petriot air defense system to Ukraine: what is known about the terms of the transfer

~6 0~p>Romania noted that the decision was made against the backdrop of a worsening situation in Ukraine due to intensified Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Romania's Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) decided to donate the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.

DIGI24 writes about this.

During the meeting, council members emphasized the need to strengthen political and practical engagement with Ukraine, while maintaining commitments to other partners.

CSAT also analyzed the stages and prospects of the conflict in Ukraine and its consequences for Romania. The Council noted that the security situation in Ukraine has deteriorated as a result of increased Russian attacks, which may have wider implications and risks for the security of the region, in particular for Moldova, as well as for European and Euro-Atlantic security.

“Romania has supported Ukraine from the very beginning of the conflict, understanding the dramatic situation, especially in terms of providing the necessary defensive systems to counter the aggression unleashed by the Russian Federation, which is targeting urban areas and critical infrastructure of the neighboring country” – noted in the CSAT press release.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense presented to the Council a detailed analysis of the situation with an assessment of the consequences of the possible transfer of the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.

“Given the significant deterioration of the security situation in Ukraine as a result of persistent and massive Russian attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, especially in the energy sector, as well as the regional implications of this situation, including for the security of Romania, In close coordination with allies, members of the Council decided to donate the Patriot system to Ukraine,” the document says.

The document notes that this donation of the air defense system is being done on the condition that Romania continues negotiations with its allies, in particular the United States, to obtain a “similar or equivalent system.”

“Romania's position is and will remain unequivocal in its multidimensional support for Ukraine, along with the international community, in its legitimate right to self-defense against illegal and unprovoked aggression of Russia,” CSAT emphasized.

We remind you that additional Patriot systems will appear in Ukraine. Ukraine is currently armed with at least four Patriot systems, provided by the United States and Germany.
